Turn the Candylab Surf n’ Turf combo into a creative food truck playset. Get practical ideas for combining vehicles, setting up scenes, and extending play.
Quick answer
The Surf n’ Turf combo from Candylab can be used as a toy food truck playset by reimagining its three vehicles as a mobile kitchen, a delivery van, and a supply truck. No extra props are needed—just a bit of storytelling.
Why the Surf n’ Turf combo works as a food truck set
The set includes three distinct vehicles: the Big Sur Brown (a classic woody wagon), the Santa Monica Surf Set (a retro surf van), and the All-Terrain Tires (a rugged off-road truck). Each has a unique silhouette that can be assigned a food truck role without modifying the toy.
Because the vehicles are solid wood with no moving parts or stickers, they rely entirely on imaginative play. This makes them ideal for open-ended storytelling, where the child decides which vehicle sells tacos and which delivers supplies.
What this set doesn’t include
The Surf n’ Turf combo does not come with play food, signage, or a play mat. If your child expects a ready-made food truck with menus and counters, you may need to add a few household items like small blocks or paper menus.
Diagnosis: Fixing a flat play scene
- Symptom: Your child lines up the three vehicles but doesn’t know how to play with them as a food truck set.
- Likely cause: The set has no built-in food truck accessories or play prompts, so the child needs a simple story framework to start.
- Corrective action: Assign each vehicle a role: Big Sur Brown is the taco truck kitchen, Santa Monica Surf Set is the delivery van, and All-Terrain Tires is the supply truck. Use small household items (blocks, paper scraps) as pretend food and money. If your child enjoys this setup, consider adding a play mat or a few toy food items to expand the scene.
- When to stop or choose another option: If your child expects a detailed food truck with printed menus, counters, and food pieces, this set alone may not satisfy that play style. In that case, look for a dedicated food truck playset with accessories.
